EXCLUSIVE | Colby Covington will be “rooting for Woodley” at UFC 228

When Colby Covington defeated Rafael dos Anjos in the co-main event of UFC 225, he earned himself the UFC interim welterweight belt. The expectation was this accomplishment would set him up for a title unifying showdown with undisputed champion Tyron Woodley. But unfortunately for Covington, this isn’t the way things happened.

Instead, the next welterweight title shot will go to England’s Darren Till, who will battle Woodley in the main event of UFC 228 on September 8. Once this fight is underway, the UFC will quietly strip Covington of his interim title — though he certainly has other ideas.

While Colby Covington has hit Tyron Woodley with an immeasurable volume of trash talk over the last few years, he says he’ll actually be rooting for the champ when the cage door closes for the UFC 228 main event.

He explained why on the latest episode of BJPENN.COM Radio.

“It’s gonna be the doughboy [Till] versus the soy boy [Woodley] at UFC 228,” Till said, referring to his welterweight rivals by the nicknames he’s assigned them. “I mean I never thought I would say this, but I’m actually rooting for Woodley. I want him to win, because I don’t want him to fuck up everything I built. I built this fight with him for over a year and a half. I’ve been begging to fight him, dude, he’s ducking me every shot he can. So I’m begging for Woodley not to fuck this up, but I just don’t know. I don’t know what’s left in the tank. Man, he’s older… man, he’s 36. He’s been in Hollywood. He’s on his little soy boy diet. He’s doing his little B-list movies that are going straight to DVD that no one cares about.”

“He’s doing this fake news stuff on Fox Sports, which we know is all a fake news website. Fox is completely fake news, and you don’t know where he’s at mentally,” Covington continued. “So obviously dough boy’s hungry, he’s obviously eating lots of cake, so he’s super hungry right now. Yes, 110%, I hope Tyron wins it.”

While Colby Covington is hoping Tyron Woodley beats Darren Till, so that he can fight him next, he’s certainly not expecting much from the fight itself.

“It’s probably gonna be one of the most boring fights in UFC history,” he said bluntly.
