EXCLUSIVE | Dominick Reyes has ‘a bone to pick’ with Anthony Smith

By Tom Taylor - January 23, 2019

If Dominick Reyes is able to defeat Volkan Oezdemir at UFC London on March 16, he might just assert himself as the next man in line for the winner of the Jon Jones vs. Anthony Smith light heavyweight title fight that is set to headline UFC 235 on March 2.

Previously, Dominick Reyes has shared his belief that Anthony Smith can defy the odds and defeat the seemingly unbeatable Jon Jones at UFC 235.

Whatever the case, Reyes has a suspicion that Smith might just retire after the fight. He’s hoping that’s not the case, as he says he’s got a bone to pick with Smith, and he’d like to settle it in the cage.

“I think this is Anthony just getting paid before he’s done, to be honest,” Reyes said on the latest episode of BJPENN Radio, speaking of Smith’s fight with Jones. “I mean, I’m hoping he doesn’t retire after this fight because I still got a bone to pick with the guy, but we’ll see.”

When asked for clarification on his gripes with Anthony Smith, Dominick Reyes elaborated:

“I didn’t have any fights set up,” he recounted. “Looking for a fight, he was available. So I said ‘Hey, man. You say you’re training on the off season. Let’s fight in February or March,’ and then he got all up in arms about it because he had this whole plan to not fight anybody until he fights Jones or Gustafsson and apparently his plan paid off for him.

“I have four wins in light heavyweight. He has three. So I was like ‘Hey, man. This will be a good fight. People want to see this. Let’s do it.’ I mean, I think so.”
