EXCLUSIVE | Nate Diaz’s boxing coach Richard Perez gives analysis for Eddie Alvarez vs. Conor McGregor
Richard Perez is a coach that has studied Conor McGregor extensively. McGregor’s last two fights were against Nate Diaz, who Perez coaches.
Speaking with BJPenn.com Radio host “Kinch” on Wednesday’s episode, Perez broke down the big UFC 205 lightweight title fight between lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez and current featherweight champ Conor McGregor and revealed some interesting information.
“It’ll be a good fight,” Perez said to “Kinch.” “It depends on McGregor’s conditioning because I know he has got a hurt ankle still, from what I heard.”
McGregor was recently seen in a “The Mac Life” video leading up to his fight taking place on November 12 with an awkward walk as if he still may be injured, which is what Perez may be talking about.
Perez went on to break down the difference in the two UFC 205 main event fighters and what he feels each will do when they step into the Octagon.
“McGregor is a lot faster than Eddie Alvarez,” Perez said. “He’s a lot sharper with his left hand. Now that’s what we were working on with Nathan before he got hurt [training for his UFC 202 fight against McGregor]. Eddie is short so, McGregor is pretty good with moving in and out against shorter guys. But, the thing is, if Eddie gets him on the ground, I know McGregor is working on that but Eddie will try to stand up first. I know he will and he’s gonna get kicked and he’s gonna get hit and gonna try take McGregor down. But, if McGregor is smart enough, he’ll move around so he won’t let him take him down. It’s not easy, but he has to work at it.”
