EXCLUSIVE | Tyron Woodley: My knockdown of Thompson was “no different” than Conor’s knockdown of Alvarez

Tyron Woodley retained his UFC welterweight championship this past Saturday night at UFC 205 in New York after fighting Stephen Thompson to a majority draw in the evenings co-main event.

“The Chosen One”, who earned the decision nod from one of the three judges in attendance at UFC 205 (48-47), spoke to BJPENN.com’s Chris Taylor on Wednesday’s episode of ‘Rapid Fire’.

During the interview, ‘T-Wood’ compared his fourth-round knockdown of Stephen Thompson to that of Conor McGregor’s fight ending knockdown versus Eddie Alvarez.

“The way Conor finished Eddie, from the clip I saw. He didn’t even have to hit him any more times. That was no different from the way my guy dropped. You know what I mean. He (Eddie) was no more drastically knocked down than Thompson was. A lot of people I talked to think the fight should have been stopped. So we will see. After being hit like that, the next time it may be easier to knock him out.”

When asked if he felt any added satisfaction from knocking down Thompson in the fourth-round when a lot of his skeptics claimed that he would not be ‘dangerous’ in the later rounds. Woodley responded with the following.

“I loved it. That was one of my favorite parts of the fight. It is like ok now everbody can shut up with that.”

As of this moment, Woodley is not sure who he be defending his title against next.

“I am willing to entertain any fight but I’m not willing to commit to any fight at this point. I just want to weigh my options and see what is the best choice for myself.  I’m not going to take a fight that will benefit someone else, I am here to take fights that will benefit me. So with that said, I will look at any fight that is available to me and then my management team will play the bad guys and make the best choice for me.”
