Current UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is busy preparing for his first title defense which takes place November 12 against Stephen Thompson at UFC 205 in New York.

The champ, who earned the 170-pound title at UFC 201 after starching Robbie Lawler with a first-round KO, was a recent guest on BJPENN.com’s Rapid Fire segment with Chris Taylor, where he discussed the upcoming lightweight title fight between current champ Eddie Alvarez and challenger Conor McGregor.

“I think it is a good match-up. I think Conor is a bit sharper. He has some really deceiving movements especially when he boxes. He barely evades punches. He slips inside, where a lot of guys slip punches on the outside. Conor has great counters and a solid chin. Both athletes have good chins. Eddie is known for his ability to come back after losing the first part of a fight. This is five-round fight, so as far as endurance I think Eddie is going to have the advantage there. Eddie also has an edge in terms of experience. But as far as sharpness and boxing I give Conor a bit of an edge. Both guys are extremely tough. Either way this fight pans out, it is good for the sport. If Conor manages to beat Eddie Alvarez and have two belts, well then it is the first time that someone has done that in UFC history. But if he loses, then Eddie Alvarez just beat Conor McGregor, who is an icon in the sport and it goes to show the depth of each division. I just hope that I am back there getting my hand-wraps cut off and getting my check, finishing off my medicals, all in enough time that I actually get to watch that main event in the flesh.”

From the sounds of things, Tyron Woodley seems to be giving current UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor a slight edge over his UFC 205 opponent lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez.
