Jorge Masvidal Talks Upcoming Fight: ‘I’m Going To Put On A Show’-EXCLUSIVE
On the latest episode of BJPENN.COM Radio, host Anton Skoro spoke with UFC fighters Jorge Masvidal and Bec Rawlings.
Masvidal is set to fight Al Iaquinta at UFC Fight Night 63 on April 4. The lightweight fighter was first scheduled to fight Bobby Green, who pulled out due to injury. Benson Henderson was picked to take the fight but he was then pulled and put against Brandon Thatch at UFC Fight Night 60. Now Iaquinta is set to go against Masvidal. Check out some highlights from Masvidal’s interview where he discusses the fight and other topics.
Masvidal is currently riding a three fight win streak and plans on adding another to the win column, “I can’t wait to make it four wins straight and just do what I do, go out there and compete and have fun.”
“I’m going to go in there and put on a show, just try to keep everybody entertained and deliver. I’m hoping after this I get the biggest name possible. It was supposed to happen this time around but I had a little bit of bad luck.”
A while ago, before he had any opponent lined up, rumors were swirling that a fight between Madvidal and Donald Cerrone was in the mix, but Masvidal said it just never happened. But that dosnt mean we won’t see him face off with the Cowboy in the future, “Believe me the fights going to happen, it’s just a matter of time. I’ve just got to keep putting in work and getting my name out there and just do it.”
Masvidal, who admits that he isn’t the fondest of social media, thinks that things like Facebook and Twitter play a big role in how fighters are getting ranked.
“Who’s got more followers, who’s taking more selfies half naked? Things like that. Cause I’m looking at these dudes like aint no way this dude is ranked whatever the hell in the world. The only thing that makes sense is the followers that they got.”
Masvidal admits that he would have liked the opportunity to fight someone with a bigger name and higher rank, but as long as he gets to fight, he’s not that concerned.
“I wish I could have got a ranked guy but thank god I’m competing so I don’t really care. As long as I’m getting to compete and do what I love to do I can’t really complain. Obviously I would have liked the toughest dude I could get my hands on, but he’ll do.”
