Megan Anderson weighs in on Holly Holm’s future

By Tom Taylor - June 20, 2017

Back in February, Holly Holm battled Germaine de Randamie for the inaugural UFC women’s bantamweight title. On August 29, in co-main event of UFC 214, Megan Anderson will battle Cris “Cyborg” Justino for that same title.

Megan Anderson discusses Holly Holm

Speaking exclusively to BJPenn.com on Monday, Anderson weighed in on Holm’s recent head-kick knockout defeat of Bethe Correia, and the three-fight losing streak that preceded it.

“It was an impressive win – in the third round,” Anderson said of Holm’s knockout of Correia. “I felt like neither lady really did anything in the first two rounds. But I’m a big Holly fan, so I’m really happy to see her get that win, and she really needed that win to kind of boost her confidence after losing three in a row. So I was really happy for her.”

Anderson then touched on the possibility of Holm’s returning to the featherweight division, where she recently fought for gold. Apparently, she has a hard time imaging Holm as a featherweight title challenger any time soon.

“I’ve seen that she said she would come back up to ’45 for the right fight, but I feel like if she wants a title shot at ’45, she’d have to fight featherweights and win to be able to get there. In her last four fights, she hasn’t really got the best record, so you can’t really demand a title shot at a weight class you fought once at and lost.”

With her knockout of Correia, Holm rebounded from back-to-back-to-back losses to Miesha Tate, Valentina Shevchenko and Germaine de Randamie.

Anderson, meanwhile, last competed in the Invicta cage, where she defeated Charmaine Tweet to win the interim featherweight title. She was then promoted to undisputed Invicta featherweight champ, and was signed by the UFC promptly thereafter. She’s 8-2 overall.

Do you think Holly Holm should return to featherweight?
