UFC 215’s Ray Borg explained how he built the “perfect” fight camp to beat Demetrious Johnson
This weekend, in the main event of UFC 215, dominant flyweight champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson will attempt to make history with an eleventh-consecutive title defense. The man standing in his way will be the 24-year-old Ray Borg.
For all Borg’s talent, he’s being counted out the majority of the MMA community, as Johnson is simply viewed as too dominant a force to stop. Borg himself, however, is pure confidence, and that’s in large part due to what he’s calling a “perfect” training camp for the champ.
Borg explained how he made this perfect camp on the latest episode of BJ Penn Radio.
“Training camp has been perfect,” he said. “I couldn’t have had a better training camp.”
“I added on a new strength and conditioning coach, a new wrestling coach,” he continued. “I added on Lawrence Ferreira. He owns Lawrence Ferreira Performance.”
“As far as sparring partners go, I’ve had a little bit of everybody,” Borg explained. “Jackson-Wink has a little bit of everybody for sparring partners – especially stylistically-wise, they have just about everybody stylistically-wise and body type wise. We had some guys down here from China, who are really good wrestlers. And then a big factor for this camp was having John Dodson as a sparring partner, who spent 50 minutes [in the cage] with Demetrious, [so he] knows Demetrious’ strengths and Demetrious’ weaknesses. Having him in my camp has been a really big part of it, having him as a sparring partner. It was really nice having Dodson as a part of this camp for this fight.”
“We pretty much just mapped out the best fight camp and the best team I could have behind me for this fight. I couldn’t have had a planned fight camp any better.”
Do you think Ray Borg’s all-star training camp will be enough to carry him to victory over the dominating Demetrious Johnson at UFC 215?
