Yair Rodriguez promises to deliver on his mom’s premonition for UFC 211 fight with Frankie Edgar
Yair Rodriguez promises to deliver on his mom’s premonition for UFC 211 fight with Frankie Edgar
Surging UFC featherweight contender Yair “El Pantera” Rodriguez will return to the octagon at next month’s UFC 211 pay-per-view event in Dallas, Texas where he will square off with former UFC lightweight champion Frankie “The Answer” Edgar.
Rodriguez was most recently seen in action this past January in Phoenix, where he scored a second-round TKO victory over our namesake BJ Penn in the main event of UFC Fight Night 103.
Prior to his victory over “The Prodigy”, “El Pantera” was coming off a split-decision win over Alex Caceres at UFC Fight Night 92 in August of 2016, which was awarded ‘fight of the night’ honors.
Rodriguez has gone a perfect 6-0 since joining the UFC ranks and holds an impressive 10-1 record overall.
Yair Rodriguez recently took time out of his busy schedule to sit down with BJPENN.com’s Chris Taylor on today’s edition of Rapid Fire where he discussed his upcoming fight with “The Answer” (Frankie Edgar).
“You know I have to be prepared for everything. I know Frankie Edgar is a well rounded fighter. He knows how to box and has some good kicks as well. It is amazing because at this point it is always going to be tough competition. I always prepare myself the best that I can for every situation you know. I go through adversity every time I go and train at the gym. I make sure to train in bad positions and go through all of that. I will start in the worst position you can possibly be in and battle through that. And a lot of stuff has to happen to be in those kind of positions. You know they would have pass through my legs (when on the ground) and pass through my boxing and elbows (when standing) to get me in these types of situations. So I am prepared for everything in this fight. This is what I do. It is what I eat, it is what I sleep and it is what I train all day everyday for. This is what I love to do.”
As for Yair’s prediction for his high profile scrap with Frankie Edgar, “El Pantera” believes his mothers premonition for the fight will come to fruition on May 13 at UFC 211.
“Look man, I talk to my mom a lot and I love her. I really love her. And she told me ‘I think you are going to knock Frankie Edgar out in the first-round with a flying knee!’. So you know, I can’t disappoint my mom dude. I cannot disappoint my mom. If he (Frankie) tries to wrestle me and do all this stuff that he does you know, well guess what, I have been practicing on all of my kicks, my knees, my elbows and everything. As well as my ground game, as well as my wrestling. So I think that is what is going to happen you know. My mom told me that and I refuse to disappoint her. So I think a flying knee knockout in the first-round against Edgar.”
