Fabricio Werdum Vows to be Heavyweight Champ Again in 2018
All eyes were on UFC 220’s main event between Stipe Moicic and Francis Ngannou. Miocic was up against a highly hyped and dangerous Ngannou, with his belt and a record on the line. He passed the test and proved he’s still the best in the world. One man who was watching would like to dispute that. Fabricio Werdum believes he’s the next to fight Stipe Miocic and will attempt to take back the title that he lost in unexpected and devastating fashion back at UFC 198.
“The UFC said nothing yet, but I think I’m the next one. I deserve this. Not just because of my last fights, but [I’ve been fighting] for 20 years. I’ve [been fighting] for a long. I think I deserve it. My goal is to put one more belt on my wall. I have two. The third one coming, for sure. […] 100 percent, I will be a champion this year again. I know Stipe Miocic. I respect him. I like him.”

“[Miocic] doesn’t say nothing like bad things. He’s a nice guy, for sure. But, 100 percent: When I fought him before, I lost to myself. I lost to me. Because of a lot of things. This time – 100 percent, he’s a good fighter. But 100 percent, I beat him. I saw this today. I’m feeling this. This year, 2018, I want to see everything. I want to train a lot to be a champion again. I don’t just fight for fighting. I’ve proved it before. I got [the title] two times. The first time, versus Mark Hunt, was like an interim belt. But, for me, it’s the same thing.” — Fabricio Werdum speaking to MMA Junkie and in an interview with TSN.
Fabricio Werdum ran at Stipe Miocic and ended up being finished in the first round. The heavyweight veteran and one of the only men on the planet to beat Fedor Emelianenko without a doubt has the stand-up, ground game and gas tank to take away the title from Miocic. He wants another crack at the man to right the wrongs of their last fight. The UFC seems to have a fight with Cain Velasquez planned if he’s healthy in time, other than that it’s hard to ague that Werdum isn’t right up there for a title shot.
