Breaking: UFC 215 gets massive heavyweight showdown
UFC 215 just grew by one massive heavyweight showdown. This tilt will see former heavyweight champion and recent title challenger Junior Dos Santos collide with surging French contender Francis Ngannou. This fight, which has been rumored for some time, was announced on the UFC’s official Facebook page.
The UFC also announced a light heavyweight bout between long-time Swedish contender Ilir Latifi and Australian prospect Tyson Pedro.
When we last saw Dos Santos in action, he came up short in a bid to reclaim heavyweight gold, succumbing to first-round punches dealt by reigning champion Stipe Miocic. This fight marked his return to the loss column after a dominant decision defeat of Ben Rothwell.
Ngannou, meanwhile, was last seen in the cage in December, when he burst into heavyweight title contention with a thudding, first-round knockout of former champion Andrei Arlovski. With this outcome, he moved to 5-0 in the UFC. Since joining the promotion he has authored stoppage defeats of Luis Henrique, Curtis Blaydes, Bojan Mihajlović, Anthony Hamilton, and Arlovski.
UFC 215 was originally expected to occur in Seattle in August. Earlier this week, however, the promotion announced that this Seattle card had been cancelled, and that the UFC 215 card will now occur on September 9 inside Rogers Place in the MMA hotbed of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
