Joe Rogan opens up on the UFC’s rising star that could mirror the ‘Mike Tyson days’

According to UFC commentator Joe Rogan, we could be seeing a resurgence of days similar to the likes of when “Iron” Mike Tyson was the most feared man to step into the ring with.

Over the weekend at UFC 218, rising heavyweight star Francis Ngannou put together a highlight reel knockout over the always dangerous Alistair Overeem. With the win, Ngannou has earned a shot at the UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and the two are reportedly being targeted to fight at UFC 220 in January.

UFC commentator Joe Rogan was there in Detroit for UFC 218 and saw Ngannou’s ferocious KO cageside and spoke with Bellator heavyweight Justin Wren about the potential of the native of Cameroon on Rogan’s JRE MMA Show podcast.

“Now they’ve got a star,” Rogan told Wren (transcribed by Mike Bohn for MMA Junkie). “I think Ngannou, one or two more fights, you’re going to be looking at Mike Tyson days. That’s what I think. You’re going to watch fights just to see how long these mother(expletives) can survive against this guy. That’s what I think. That could be their big, breakout star.”

Odds have been released for a Miocic and Ngannou title fight and the challenger is the favorite in the matchup. Despite Miocic having the belt and having a list of opponents finished in the first rounds during his reign as champion, Ngannou’s vicious display of power against Overeem is very fresh in people’s minds.

Do you think we will see Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou meet in the Octagon in January at UFC 220? Who will walk away the victor? Let us know in the comment section!
