The highly anticipated heavyweight bout proved to be a one sided affair. Alexander Volkov was able to pepper Alistair Overeem with strikes right from the opening bell. By round two, ‘The Reem’ was a bloody mess and further combinations from ‘Drago’ only made him worse for wear. Volkov eventually connected with a massive punch that put ‘The Reem’ down for good.

Frankie Edgar vs. Cory Sandhagen targeted for UFC card on February 6

An intriguing bantamweight matchup between top-ranked contenders Frankie Edgar and Cory Sandhagen is being targeted for February 6, 2021. Edgar and Sandhagen were previously supposed to fight in January 2020 at UFC Raleigh, but the fight fell apart when Edgar was removed from the card to fight The Korean Zombie instead. Fortunately, the UFC was able to re-book the fight, just one year later. ESPN’s Ariel Helwani was the first to report that Edgar vs. Sandhagen will fight on February 6. It will not be the main card, as it will instead be on the undercard of an event headlined by heavyweights Alistair Overeem and Alexander Volkov.

The official UFC rankings have been updated after last Saturday’s UFC Vegas 7 card, and as expected, there have been some interesting changes. Most notably, former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar is now a ranked bantamweight having defeated Pedro Munhoz with a controversial split decision in the card’s main event. Edgar, who has spent the last few years competing in the featherweight division, was making a debut at bantamweight, and has swiped the division’s No. 5 spot in victory.
