Gegard Mousasi is 'more nervous than normal' for middleweight title fight with Rafael Carvalho

Tom Taylor - May 23, 2018

This Friday night, in the main event of Bellator 200, former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion and UFC middleweight contender Gegard Mousasi will challenge Rafael Carvalho for Bellator’s middleweight championship. The bout was originally expected to serve as the card’s co-headliner, but was elevated to the headlining spot when Roy Nelson and Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic’s rematch was nixed due to injury. Despite the fact that Mousasi will enter this fight more than 50 professional fights behind him, he’s apparently feeling quite nervous about it.

Gegard Mousasi is currently gearing up for a Bellator 200 middleweight title fight with destructive champion Rafael Carvalho, but that didn’t stop him from calling out Bellator welterweight champion Rory MacDonald late last week. “He didn’t have a great performance [against Douglas Lima], but I’m not going to go on Twitter and say stupid shit,” Mousasi said of MacDonald on the last episode of The MMA Hour.

Tom Taylor - March 11, 2018

It was recently announced that former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion and UFC middleweight contender Gegard Mousasi will return to the Bellator cage at Bellator 200 on May 25. On this stacked card, which goes down in London, England, Mousasi will take on Bellator’s reigning middleweight champion Rafael Carvalho. If Mousasi can get passed Carvalho at Bellator 200, he’s hoping it’ll open the door to more big opportunities in the Bellator cage – namely, a showdown with Bellator welterweight champ Rory MacDonald.

Ahead of Bellator debut, Gegard Mousasi targets MW title, super fights with top Bellator stars

Tom Taylor - October 17, 2017

Gegard Mousasi is arguably the best fighter Bellator MMA has snagged from the UFC to date, and this weekend, in the main event of Bellator185, the former Strikeforce and Dream light heavyweight champ will make his promotional debut. Though he probably could have been rushed into an immediate title shot opposite champ Rafael Carvalho, he’ll instead battle former champion Alexander Shlemenko, while the next Bellator middleweight title shot goes to fellow UFC veteran Alessio Sakara.

Rory MacDonald Wants to Fight Gegard Mousasi in Bellator

Justin Golightly - August 31, 2017

When Rory MacDonald walked down the Bellator ramp like Scott Hall showing up at a WCW Nitro broadcast, it sent some pretty big shockwaves through the internet. His debut for the organization wasn’t any less exciting, he submitted Paul Daley in less than two minutes. MacDonald is confident his performance is going to result in a welterweight title shot against champion Douglas Lima, but he has his eyes set on an even bigger goal: Two-weight division Bellator champion. A path that he hopes leads to a fight with another UFC transplant, Gegard Mousasi. .@rory_macdonald will be doing an AMA this Thursday at 3pm EST on @rMMAmod for his first-ever @Reddit_AMA. #RedKingAMA #BellatorNation pic.twitter.com/OB5QxLz9PL

Gegard Mousasi will not be getting the next Bellator middleweight title shot

Tom Taylor - July 12, 2017

Earlier this week, we learned that former Strikeforce light heavyweight champ and long-time UFC middleweight contender Gegard Mousasi had failed to agree on the terms of a new UFC contract, and that he would be moving to the world’s second biggest MMA promotion, Bellator MMA. Given Mousasi’s stature as one of the finest middleweights on the planet, it was immediately assumed that he’d walk right through the doors to a Bellator middleweight title shot opposite reigning champion Rafael Carvalho.

Report | Gegard Mousasi has found a new home

Tom Taylor - July 10, 2017

Gegard Mousasi’s impressive – if controversial – UFC 210 TKO defeat of former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman marked the final obligation on his UFC contract. With his contract completed, Mousasi then entered a renegotiation period with the UFC. Despite the fact that Mousasi holds the number-four spot in the UFC middleweight rankings, the promotion was apparently unprepared to pay him what he felt he was worth. According to reports from Chamatkar Sandhu and Kimura Crew, Mousasi and the UFC have failed to agree on the terms of a new contract, and the Iranian-Dutchman will now be migrating to Bellator MMA.

'Big' John McCarthy breaks down Chris Weidman - Gegard Mousasi controversy

bjpenndotcom - April 27, 2017

Recently, at UFC 210, former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman stepped into the Octagon with Gegard Mousasi in hopes of snapping a 2-fight skid and returning to the win column. After going undefeated throughout his professional career, which included winning the UFC middleweight title, Weidman dropped back to back losses to Luke Rockhold and Yoel Romero. While Weidman hoped to return to title contention with a win over Mousasi, it was Mousasi who walked away with the win, picking up a TKO win after Weidman was declared TKOd by referee Dan Miragliotta in what turned out to be an extremely controversial incident.
