VIDEO | Gegard Mousasi and Rory MacDonald have their first staredown
On September 29, in the main event of Bellator’s first event on DAZN, Bellator middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi will attempt to defend his title against Bellator welterweight champion Rory MacDonald in a bona fide Bellator super fight.
Today, at the press conference announcing Bellator’s deal with DAZN, Mousasi and MacDonald had their first staredown, and it was pretty intense. As we all expected, the former DREAM and Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi will have a significant size advantage over MacDonald.
See the pair’s staredown in the video at the top of this post.
Gegard Mousasi last fought in May, when he captured the Bellator middleweight belt with a dominant first-round TKO of the dangerous Rafael Carvalho. In his next most recent fight, he debuted in the Bellator cage with a close, decision defeat of the grossly underrated Alexander Shlemenko.
MacDonald, meanwhile, last fought in January, when he captured the Bellator welterweight strap with a hard-fought decision defeat of Bellator welterweight staple Douglas Lima. His first Bellator bout occurred in May of 2017, when he submitted knockout artist Paul Daley.
Bellator’s September 29th DAZN card will also feature a heavyweight rematch between PRIDE and UFC legends Wanderlei Silva and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, who have met three times before.
The card is also expected to feature several first-round bouts in Bellator’s newly announced welterweight grand prix.
