BREAKING | Georges St-Pierre signs contract for bout with Michael Bisping

By Tom Taylor - August 9, 2017

This afternoon, former UFC welterweight champion and bona fide MMA legend Georges St. Pierre picked up a pen, scrawled his signature on an agreement for a UFC 217 middleweight title fight with champ Michael Bisping, and generated a collective sigh of disappointment from the many established contenders in the UFC middleweight division.

Yes, whether middleweight stars like Robert Whittaker, Yoel Romero, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman like it not, this much-discussed, and even more frequently derided middleweight title fight between Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre would seem to be a go.

St-Pierre shared the news on his social media channels.

St-Pierre will enter this fight having not fought since he narrowly defended the UFC welterweight title against Johny Hendricks in late 2013. While he is undoubtedly one of the best to ever do it, he has never competed in the middleweight division.

Bisping, meanwhile, has not stepped into the cage since he picked up a similarly close title defense over an aging Dan Henderson in October of 2016. In his next most recent fight, he clubbed Luke Rockhold to a shocking first-round knockout to earn the belt.
