This week, news surfaced that former welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre and the UFC had come to an agreement on a multi-fight contract and were in the process of finalizing the new contract. Just days later, UFC President Dana White confirmed that St-Pierre and the UFC had reached an agreement, and that St-Pierre would be returning to the Octagon.

Initially, where was no word as to when GSP would be returning, or who he would fight, however in an interview with the LA Times, UFC President Dana White said fight fans may not have to wait long to find out who Georges St-Pierre next fight could be against:

Georges St-Pierre

“He’s back. I’m excited,” White said. “We worked at it for a long time and finally got it done.”

“It could be the winner [of the March 4 welterweight title fight] between Tyron Woodley and Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, or it could be [middleweight champion] Michael Bisping,” White said. “Georges has also talked about fighting at 155 pounds [lightweight]. He says he can make the weight.

“But I have no idea when he’s going to fight right now. We don’t have anything booked and literally haven’t talked to anybody about it.”

White then revealed:

Freddie Roach

“Two guys who care about Georges came to me and said, ‘Do you want to a deal?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I want to a deal.’ We got it done,”

As it turns out, the two men who approached White about getting the deal done were Freddie Roach and his CAA agent, Nick Khan.

One thing is for sure, Georges St-Pierre will likely have his eyes on UFC 209’s Tyron Woodley vs. Stephen Thompson welterweight title fight, which could determine his first opponent upon returning to the Octagon.
