Ed Soares calls for Silva vs. St-Pierre superfight

Throughout the course of the past year, talks have continued to arise regarding the potential return of former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre. Negotiations between GSP and the UFC were reportedly going well in late 2016, however due to his personal deal with Under Arumor, and the UFC’s conflicting deal with Reebok, St-Pierre never returned to the Octagon. This of course ended talks of a potential GSP vs. Michael Bisping superfight, and fight fans have been left without an update since.

This week however, reports began to surface that St-Pierre and the UFC reached a deal for a multi-fight contract which they were in the process of finalizing a deal for. That of course led to quite a bit of talk regarding who St-Pierre could fight in his return, which subsequently resulted in oddsmakers releasing odds as to who St-Pierre’s first opponent could be.

According to oddsmakers, St-Pierre is most likely to fight Michael Bisping, with a superfight against Anderson Silva being the 2nd most likely possibility.

Now, Anderson Silva’s former manager Ed Soares has released a statement on the situation, and why he feels a Silva vs. St-Pierre superfight needs to happen:

“GSP vs. Anderson is something I feel makes the most sense for everyone,” Soares said. “Two of the greatest of all time fighting is good for the fans, the UFC, and for both athletes. This would make everyone a lot of money and it’s a fight MMA fans all over the world would want to watch.”

GSP Silva

While GSP has been absent from the Octagon for the past four years, Silva recently snapped a 2-fight skid as he picked up a unanimous decision win over Derek Brunson this past weekend in the co-main event of UFC 208.

Stay tuned for updates regarding this situation as they become available.
