Firas Zahabi says Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz missed an opportunity to bring Georges St-Pierre out of retirement

Nate Diaz’s call out to Conor McGregor after his win over Michael Johnson at UFC on FOX 17 was the best move of his career.

Georges St-Pierre post fight victory

The expletive speech put the wheels in motion for a big money fight, but it wasn’t until lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos pulled out of his fight with McGregor to get things really going for Diaz.

Diaz stated that before he got the call to step in to replace dos Anjos and fight McGregor, he wanted to get a fight with former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. Things were looking up for Diaz’s request for the former champ following his exciting win over McGregor as Firas Zahabi, coach of St-Pierre was working to get GSP out of retirement for the big fight with Diaz. However, all that has likely gone out the window as the UFC is working on putting an immediate rematch together for McGregor and Diaz.

“If McGregor had won, he’s just a guy that stirs the pot like nobody else,” Zahabi said on the MMA Hour on Monday (transcribed by MMA Mania). “It could have been crazy if he called out Georges, it could have been crazy if Nate called out Georges. Anything could have been motivating for Georges, I think it could have happened. Nothing happened.”

Perhaps this is Zahabi’s hint for the winner of the UFC 200 main event to reenact Diaz’s infamous call out and make some noise to get Georges St-Pierre back in the Octagon.
