Georges St-Pierre explains roadblock in UFC negotiations
Former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre appears to be closer than ever before to returning to the UFC.
While UFC President Dana White has remained adamant that he believes the former welterweight kingpin will not return to the Octagon because he no longer has the desire to compete with the UFC’s best, St-Pierre revealed Wednesday in a rare TV appearance that he is ready to prove White wrong.
Despite that, negotiations between St-Pierre’s management team and the UFC are ongoing, with things recently appearing to stagnant according to St-Pierre, who explained that the UFC brass is “unreachable”.
St-Pierre explained to MMAFighting that one of the major roadblocks in his negotiations with the UFC is the UFC’s recent uniform deal with Reebok:
“It’s a lot of the Reebok deal, but it’s also other things, too,” St-Pierre said. “The Reebok deal is part of it and it changed a lot of the infrastructure of the contract. This is not my fight. This is my manager’s fight.”
Earlier this week, St-Pierre explained that if he does return to the Octagon, he would like to fight welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, #3 ranked welterweight Demian Maia, or MMA veteran Nick Diaz.
Woodley is fresh off a KO win over Robbie Lawler in the main event of UFC 201, while Maia is fresh off a win over Carlos Condit this past Saturday.
Nick Diaz on the other hand, recently celebrated the end of his 18-month suspension, however he currently does not have a fight set.
