Former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre is frequently one official announcement away from returning to the Octagon.

Despite his indefinite hiatus, St-Pierre has remained adamant that he is open to a return to the Octagon if he is able to reach a deal with the UFC. This week, St-Pierre made a rare TV appearance to give fans an update on his return to the Octagon, stating that he would like a fight with Demian Maia, Tyron Woodley, or Nick Diaz at UFC 206 in Toronto.

Unfortunately, St-Pierre and the UFC have been unable to reach a deal, and ‘Rush is still left on the sidelines as negotiations between his management team and the UFC brass have begun to stagnate.

In an interview with MMAFighting, GSP spoke about the situation, saying:

“We wanted to get in touch. They were supposed to talk yesterday, but they couldn’t reach them. Something happened. They’re supposed to reach them. They’re unreachable now.”

“I’ve refused a lot of projects because of this. At one point, I’ll have to make a choice.”

“I want to stay sharp. I want to stay in shape. It’s either you go in movies or you go in fighting. You have to do one good.”

While UFC President Dana White has remained adamant that he doesn’t believe St-Pierre will return to the Octagon, a statement from UFC exec Dave Sholler to MMAFighting stated:

“Dialogue between GSP’s management and UFC officials is ongoing.”
