Georges St-Pierre will retire if he loses comeback fight

With the highly anticipated return of former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre looming in the not-so-certain future, fight fans are anxiously awaiting word regarding when, or if, Georges St-Pierre will be returning to the Octagon.

While St-Pierre was initially supposed to fight UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping for the middleweight belt this year upon returning to the Octagon, St-Pierre revealed several weeks ago that he would be unable to fight Bisping until the end of the year. While this didn’t match the timeline initially given by Bisping, the champ revealed that a knee injury would keep him sidelined through summer anyway.

Ultimately, the UFC opted to book an interim middleweight title fight between Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero for this summer, with UFC President Dana White stating that St-Pierre’s return would likely be at welterweight now.

With all of that being said, the former champ spoke on The MMA Hour yesterday to discuss his potential return, saying:

“One thing I can tell you for sure is that I’m at one fight for retiring for good, this I can tell you for sure,” St-Pierre said. “If I come back and I lose, this is it for me. If I come back and I lose, it’s finished.”

“I still have a lot of fire,” St-Pierre continued. “I don’t want to hang there and become a punching bag for the younger people. I do not believe I’m going to lose. I think I’m at my best, my trainers think I’m at my best. I put a lot on the line, and I know that if I come back it’s because I’m a much better version than what I was, and I want to go back to another shot and rewrite history. But if down the road I lose, I pass the torch, it’s over, it’s finished.”

“It’s a lot of pressure and that’s why I’ll be fighting at my best because I will be fighting like there’s no tomorrow. That’s when I’m at my best, when I’m fighting like there’s no tomorrow.”
