Georges St-Pierre Says Early Weigh-Ins Do The Opposite of What They're Intended

Justin Golightly - October 26, 2017

The weight cutting in MMA has been a problem everyone points out, but few can offer a solution. The latest scare was Kevin Lee’s suspenseful weigh-in before UFC 216, where he almost failed to make the championship limit which would have canceled the main event a day before the fight. He looked bad on that Friday, but it could have been way worse. People have recently died directly from the drain of their weight cuts. Georges St-Pierre recently spoke up about the issue and believes that the early weigh-ins do nothing but increase the problem. #UFC217 headliner Georges St-Pierre doesn’t like the early weigh-ins policy that wasn’t around last time he was here https://t.co/yDikXXGzLC pic.twitter.com/RYVHSM3sm0

Freddie Roach reveals interesting clause in Georges St-Pierre's UFC contract

Russell Ess - October 26, 2017

It was huge news when former UFC welterweight king Georges St-Pierre and the UFC had reached an agreement in February for a new contract to come back to compete in the Octagon. One man who played a key role in getting both St-Pierre and the UFC to agree on terms is legendary boxing trainer Freddie Roach. Roach will enter as a cornerman in MMA for the first time when St-Pierre returns for his fight scheduled against Michael Bisping at UFC 217 on November 4.

Georges St-Pierre's mentor claims he's not ready for Michael Bisping

Tom Taylor - October 26, 2017

On November 4, in the main event of UFC 217, former UFC welterweight champion and bona fide MMA great Georges St-Pierre will return from a multi-year hiatus to battle reigning UFC middleweight champ Michael Bisping. While many fans envision a return to excellence for St-Pierre, his long-time friend and mentor Kristof Midoux does not. In fact, he believes Georges St-Pierre’s comeback is ill-advised, and that it could end in disaster. “I do not agree with this return and I do not know who managed to convince him,” Midoux recently told UFC veteran Patrick Cote on the Uppercut Podcast (translated from French via Le Journal de Montréal). “I do not see the objective surrounding this fight.

Georges St-Pierre responds to rumors that his drawing power has diminished

Tom Taylor - October 26, 2017

Georges St-Pierre‘s UFC 217 shot at Michael Bisping’s middleweight title has generated plenty of controversy. St-Pierre, after all, hasn’t fought since November of 2013, and has never before fought in the middleweight division. Needless to say, he’s far from the most deserving middleweight contender in the traditional sense. That being said, the reason for Georges St-Pierre’s title shot is pretty clear: the UFC is hoping to bank on his name, and cash in with a big-selling pay-per-view.

Russell Ess - October 24, 2017

Georges St-Pierre is returning to compete in the Octagon after taking a nearly four-year hiatus from the sport. GSP will go up to the middleweight division for the first time in his career to take on Michael Bisping at UFC 217 on November 4 for Bisping’s UFC middleweight title. Given that “Rush” said he is returning to compete in MMA because he wanted fights that would excite him and get him motivated, it is hard to imagine a matchup against the trash-talking Irish UFC lightweight champion would not get him excited. St-Pierre spoke with Sports Illustrated recently and was asked if he has plans of fighting Conor McGregor in the future.

Georges St-Pierre believes Michael Bisping is "terrified" of one thing ahead of their fight

Tom Taylor - October 24, 2017

On November 4, in the main event of the stacked UFC 217, former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will return from a lengthy hiatus to battle Michael “The Count” Bisping for the UFC middleweight belt. Though St-Pierre is widely considered one of the greatest fighters ever, he’ll have plenty of disadvantages when he steps into the cage with Bisping – namely being the smaller man in the cage, and being a fighter riding such a long layoff. That said, St-Pierre believes he’s got some advantages too, particularly in the grappling department. In fact, he believes Bisping is “terrified” of a prolonged grappling match on November 4.

Georges St-Pierre reveals current weight, discusses weight cut for middleweight debut

Tom Taylor - October 23, 2017

We’re now less than two weeks away from the long-awaited comeback fight of former UFC welterweight champion and bona fide MMA legend Georges St-Pierre. The Canadian star will make his return against reigning, defending UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping in the main event of UFC 217, this November 4 inside New York City’s Madison Square Garden. Given that St-Pierre is a former welterweight, and that Bisping has fought as heavy as light heavyweight, there has been much discussion about their potential size and weight difference.

UFC 217 is a card that you don’t have to sell, stacked with incredible fights that you don’t need to promote. That’s not going to stop UFC middleweight champion from talking trash to hype up his giant fight with Georges St-Pierre. Not only will it put more eyes on the event, but he’s looking to rent space into St-Pierre’s head. It wasn’t long ago that he brought up Georges St-Pierre’s comments from 2013 talking about aliens. Now, Bisping dug into the vault to bring up drama from UFC 94. Hey @georgesstpierre no cheating this time please 😂😂😂

Tyron Woodley: I feel like I’ve surpassed Georges and that’s why I want to go out there to fight him and prove it

Russell Ess - October 16, 2017

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley will be facing the winner of the exciting UFC on FOX 26 matchup between Robbie Lawler and Rafael dos Anjos. Either opponent will make for an exciting fight against Woodley. However, “The Chosen One” still wants to prove his skillset against former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre who is returning to the Octagon next month after stepping away from the sport for nearly four years.

Justin Golightly - October 14, 2017

Crowds were deafening last night at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec. It’s the same arena that Georges St-Pierre defended the UFC welterweight title against Josh Koscheck, Carlos Condit, and Nick Diaz. As soon as he walked out, it was clear he’s still a Canadian mega star. The audience welcomed its UFC prizefighter as he arrived to drop down the puck for the Toronto Maple Leafs/Montreal Canadiens game. His opponent Michael Bisping, predictably did not get the same treatment.  Bisping booed, GSP cheered in Montreal. Shocking, I know #UFC217 pic.twitter.com/j5itgJ75WT

UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping and former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre are set to meet in the Octagon at UFC 217, which takes place at the Madison Square Garden in New York on November 4. St-Pierre’s November 4th return to the Octagon will be just shy of four years since he last fought. St-Pierre last competed in mixed martial arts on November 16, 2013, where he defeated Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 in a close welterweight title fight that ended with a judge’s split decision going in favor of St-Pierre who was champion at the time. For the return of “Rush,” the former welterweight kingpin will be stepping up a weight class to challenge Bisping for his 185-pound title, which the Englishman won by knocking out Luke Rockhold at UFC 199 in June of last year.

Georges St-Pierre adds former opponent to training camp for Michael Bisping fight

Tom Taylor - October 10, 2017

On November 4, in the main event of the absolutely stacked UFC 217, former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will make his long-awaited return to the Octagon. While St-Pierre’s previous dominance occurred at welterweight, however, this is not where his return will occur. Instead, he’ll be stepping up to middleweight to battle reigning champion Michael Bisping. As the much smaller man in the Octagon, and a fighter riding a significant layoff, St-Pierre is in for a tough test opposite Bisping. That said, he seems to be taking his training very seriously, and even called on an old foe to help him prepare. That former foe is Jake Shields.

Georges St-Pierre has some objections to a potential fight with Conor McGregor

Tom Taylor - October 9, 2017

On November 4, in the main event of UFC 217, former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will return from a multi-year hiatus to battle UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping. If St-Pierre defeats Bisping, it opens the door to a number of other super fights, such as battles pitting him against Anderson Silva, Tyron Woodley, and perhaps most interestingly, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor. As two of the biggest and most dominating stars the UFC has ever produced, St-Pierre and McGregor are often talked about as potential opponents for one another. In the opinion of Georges St-Pierre himself, however, this isn’t the most interesting option for him. He’s not keen on dropping down weight classes to fight smaller opponents. Instead, he’s interested in moving up to take on bigger foes, like Bisping.

Michael Bisping Trolls Georges St-Pierre About Thinking He Had an Alien Encounter

Justin Golightly - October 7, 2017

We’ve still got UFC 216 touching down tonight, but yesterday the press conference for UFC 217 blasted off. We mean that more literally than you think. Michael Bisping hit the ground running, digging into his opponent Georges St-Pierre with verbal jabs. St-Pierre, or anyone else for that matter, could barely get a word in edgewise. Of all the things he said, one being calling GSP a ‘lizard’, one statement just glows a little bit brighter than the others. He said that the reason St-Pierre didn’t return sooner, is because Johny Hendrick’s hit him so hard he thought he had a close encounter of the third kind. “[Georges St-Pierre] didn’t want to fight because Johny Hendricks hit him in the head so many times, he thought he’d been abducted by aliens. I’m surprised you’re not wearing a tinfoil hat today to stop the messages coming. Dude, I’m going to hit you so many times, you’re going to think you’re going to disappear on the mothership.” — Michael Bisping to Georges St-Pierre at the UFC 217 presser last night.

Russell Ess - September 29, 2017

Former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre is set to make his return to the Octagon after being away from competition for nearly four years. “Rush” will be going up a weight class from the 170-pound welterweight limit up to the 185-pound middleweight division and take on current UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping for his title.

Michael Bisping Predicts a First Round KO Over Georges St-Pierre

Justin Golightly - September 27, 2017

It was just last week that Michael Bisping revealed he was at least thinking about retirement, but he sure isn’t sounding like he’s leaning toward it. He says he’s down to go up and challenge Daniel Cormier, now he’s got some bold predictions regarding his upcoming fight with Georges St-Pierre. Not only is he confident that he’ll knock out the former welterweight champion in the very first round, but part of his confidence could come from… spies in Georges St-Pierre’s camp? “Generally, when I fight wrestlers in the past, I move around a lot. I utilize a lot of lateral movement, forward and back movement, side to side, because if you’re moving, it’s hard for a wrestler to shoot a double leg on you because you’re a moving target. I won’t be doing that this time. I’m going to stand right in front of [Georges St-Pierre], I’m going to plant my feet, I’m going to walk him down, put him on the back foot, and I’m going to knock him out in the first round. You have my word.”
