UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping has generated some controversy over the last few weeks, as he’s been flirting with the idea of a superfight with Georges St-Pierre, and simultaneously showing disinterest in a fight with top middleweight contender Yoel Romero. According to the British champion, however, he’d simply be foolish not to accept a fight with St-Pierre if it was offered to him.

Shortly after, it was announced that St-Pierre had officially signed the new UFC contract, and that the UFC was currently looking to book him a fight.

Last week, we learned that after months of rumors, reports, negotiations and stalemates, The UFC and Georges St-Pierre had agreed on the terms for a new contract. Given that St-Pierre is widely considered the best welterweight of all time – and one of the best fighters ever, period – this was an undeniably exciting development. Now that we know St-Pierre will actually be returning to the Octagon, the next big question is who he’ll fight upon his return. Though there are plenty of interesting options for him inside the welterweight division he once ruled, his coach Firas Zahabi is most intrigued by fights with UFC middleweight champ Michael Bisping, and lightweight champ Conor McGregor.

With this development, we can expect to see the welterweight great back in the Octagon sometime in the next few months – though it’s not known who he’ll fight or even what division he’ll fight in. Given that it has now been more than three years since St-Pierre has stepped into the Octagon, there is widespread debate as to how he’ll look upon his return. This news that Georges St-Pierre returns comes on the heels of reports surfacing earlier in the week that St-Pierre and the promotion were in the process of finalizing a multi-fight contract which the terms of had already been agreed upon.

Throughout the course of the past year, talks have continued to arise regarding the potential return of former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre. Negotiations between GSP and the UFC were reportedly going well in late 2016, however due to his personal deal with Under Arumor, and the UFC’s conflicting deal with Reebok, St-Pierre never returned to the Octagon. This of course ended talks of a potential GSP vs. Michael Bisping superfight, and fight fans have been left without an update since.

Reports surfaced that St-Pierre would be returning for a middleweight title fight with Michael Bisping in Canada, however after negotiations with the UFC failed due to a conflicting deal St-Pierre personally had with Under Armour, the former champ released a statement via Twitter saying:

In 2016, former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre, former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw, and top ranked fighters Donald Cerrone & Tim Kennedy announced the formation of the MMA Athletes Association, also known as the MMAAA, aimed at UFC fighters unionizing in an effort to receive more pay from the UFC.
