Tyron Woodley says Georges St-Pierre wants to fight
After winning the UFC welterweight championship this past Saturday in the main event of UFC 201, Tyron Woodley set his sights on a money fight with either Georges St-Pierre or Nick Diaz.
The decision drew much criticism for the Missouri native, who many believed was ducking welterweight #1 contender Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson. Despite that, Woodley says that former welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre is actually interested in a fight.
This wouldn’t be the first time St-Pierre has been rumored to be interested in returning to the Octagon. Earlier this year St-Pierre and his camp allegedly reached out to Michael Bisping for a middleweight title fight, however nothing came to fruition.
Woodley spoke on his “Morning Wood with Deez Nuts” podcast to discuss a potential fight with GSP:
I’ve already spoken to the lineal champion; the No. 1 welterweight … one of the greatest in the sport,” Woodley said. “His interest is in fighting me. Georges St. Pierre wants to fight me. And guess what? I want to fight him.”
“I want to know that I at least had the opportunity to prove to myself that I’m the best welterweight who’s ever graced a damn Octagon,”
