UPDATE | Georges St-Pierre Vacates Middleweight title, Whittaker Defending Undisputed title vs Rockhold
Well, the speculation has ended, Georges St-Pierre’s Middleweight title reign has come to an end before it could even really begin. After it was announced that Robert Whittaker would fight Luke Rockhold at UFC 221, it was assumed that Whittaker would be defending a title… It was just unclear whether or not it would be his Interim title or if St-Pierre would be vacating his Middleweight title making Whittaker the new undisputed champion. The latter has been announced as the case.

Georges St-Pierre made his return to the octagon after a lengthy four-year layoff at UFC 217 when he defeated Middleweight champion, Michael Bisping by third-round submission. This was St-Pierre’s third UFC title win as a challenger and this made him the fourth multi-division UFC champion in the company’s history. It was also his first win by finish in eight years.
It’s likely that once St-Pierre is healthy again he will drop back down to his former home of 170 lbs where he’ll surely earn an immediate title shot against whoever is the champion at that time. Current 170 lb Welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley has been more than willing to fight the MMA legend and former king of his division. And of course, there is a possibility of a mega-fight with Conor McGregor which is something that both would surely not be opposed to…
What’s next for St-Pierre?
