Gilbert Burns is looking to grapple Nate Diaz for a winner takes all grappling match. Burns and Diaz have taken shots at one another after Burns was announced to be getting the next title shot. The Stockton native trashed the Brazilian saying it is a terrible title fight so now Burns is looking to grapple Diaz in the very near future.

Gilbert Burns has his eyes set on UFC gold, but he also wants to beat up Nate Diaz. After Burns knocked out Demian Maia and then dominated Tyron Woodley he became the number one contender at welterweight. He was supposed to fight Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title at UFC 251 but tested positive for COVID-19. The fight was then rebooked for December but has been canceled due to Usman needing more time.

While Hooker (20-9 MMA) is undoubtedly a great fighter, ‘The Hangman’ currently competes at lightweight and thus is not even in the conversation for a title shot at 170-pounds.

UFC welterweight contender Gilbert Burns has taken a shot at Ariel Helwani for suggesting he needs to fight to keep his number one contender spot. It was reported last night that the proposed Welterweight Championship bout at UFC 256 between Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns will no longer be taking place on that date. Following the news, ESPN reporter Ariel Helwani suggested that perhaps Burns would be open to fighting Leon Edwards with the winner being dubbed the new number one contender.

Gilbert Burns has slammed the UFC rankings after Colby Covington’s win over Tyron Woodley took him above Burns in the standings. “Chaos” was able to put an end to his rivalry with Woodley last weekend by dominating the former welterweight king before stopping him in the fifth and final round. Courtesy of the win, many believe he could be in line for another shot at the Welterweight Championship sooner rather than later.

Gilbert Burns doesn’t think Colby Covington switching to orthodox will change his power. For his entire career, Covington has been fighting as a southpaw. He has been known as a volume striker but wasn’t someone who was scoring one-punch knockouts. When Covington left ATT and started to train at MMA Masters, his coaches realized he is orthodox and believes that will help his power.

According to a report from TMZ, undisputed welterweight champion Kamaru Usman is set defend his title against Gilbert Burns on the card, and a BMF title rematch between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz is also in the works for the event. Usman was originally expected to defend his title against Burns in July. Regrettably, Burns, who is riding a huge win over Tyron Woodley, was forced out of the fight when he tested positive for COVID-19. He was then replaced by Masvidal, who Usman defeated by unanimous decision.

Now that he’s healthy again and Usman defeated replacement opponent Jorge Masvidal at record-setting UFC 251, the UFC intends on having Usman fight Burns next, hopefully before the year is up.

Edwards was supposed to headline UFC London against Tyron Woodley, where many were assuming he won, he would get a title shot. Yet, the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Englishman has yet to get a fight since. He said he was offered the title fight before Burns but couldn’t take it due to lack of training and the COVID-19 restrictions in England.
