Holly Holm explains her case for immediate rematch with Miesha Tate

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm was not happy when she heard news that current champion Miesha Tate would be fighting Amanda Nunes next at UFC 200.

Holm spoke with Ariel Helwani on Monday’s episode of the MMA Hour and talked about the women’s bantamweight title picture.

“I know I was asking for it,” Holm said of the immediate rematch. “My manager was constantly talking with the UFC. But, I guess I have to just be patient. What can I do from my standpoint? I just kind of have to wait and see what happens.”

Holm went on to explain why she felt that an immediate rematch with Tate made sense.

“As far as how she won the belt, it wasn’t like she was dominating me, you know? I was ahead, I was winning that fight. Yeah, she totally had round two and dominated round two. But, I think that’s why a rematch in my eyes and I think in most people’s eyes makes sense. It wasn’t really one-sided. I felt like I was winning and then she got the submission in the end, so I don’t see why they wouldn’t want to see a rematch with something like that.”

Although Holm will have to wait and see what happens, perhaps she should be training and ready if any opportunity arises for her to step in on late notice. The UFC has had a troubling issue with fighters having to pull out of big fights due to injury.
