Holly Holm vs. Irene Aldana fight postponed, August 1 UFC card gets new headliner

An anticipated bantamweight fight between Holly Holm and Irene Aldana, which was set to headline a UFC card on August 1, has been postponed. The bout was postponed when Aldana withdrew from the matchup and a suitable replacement could not be found for Holm. The reason for Aldana’s exit is not currently clear.

Holly Holm is hoping that she’ll have the opportunity for a second shot at reigning UFC bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes in the future. Holm, 38, fought Amanda Nunes in July of 2019. She lost the fight via first-round TKO. She rebounded from that loss with a decision defeat of Raquel Pennington, and will look to make it two in a row when she takes on Irene Aldana on August 1.

Holm captured the UFC Bantamweight Championship back in November 2015 when she beat Ronda Rousey, but since then, she’s gone 3-5 in the UFC across her last eight fights. Despite that, she’s still fought for either the featherweight or bantamweight title three times since dropping the belt to Miesha Tate — losing all three.

Even Dana White previously dismissed the idea of a women’s division in the UFC. The MMA anti-female rhetoric attracts criticism but nevertheless highlights an ongoing perception that females should not fight.

Daniel Cormier feels proud of being recognized for testing clean for over 50 United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) tests. The former heavyweight champion, Cormier has been honored today by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) after 50 of his tests have come back negative. Holly Holm was recently honored for accomplishing 50 clean tests. However, UFC VP of Athlete Health and Performance Jeff Novitzky revealed the Cormier was in fact first and has now surpassed the 54 test mark. Novitzky praised DC for his commitment to fighting clean and fair.
