Amanda Nunes eyes gold in two divisions
Tom Taylor - January 15, 2017
Not long ago, former women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm suggested that, if she wins her upcoming featherweight title fight with Germaine de Randamie, she’d then like to challenge Amanda Nunes for bantamweight gold. If she were to defeat Nunes in this prospective showdown, she’d join Conor McGregor as one of just two fighters in UFC history to hold titles in two weight classes concurrently. As it turns out, however, Nunes has similar hopes for her career. On Saturday evening, Nunes took to Twitter to request a shot at the winner of Holm and De Randamie’s looming featherweight title showdown, explaining that she too would like to enter the history books as a two-division UFC champion.

Holly Holm wants to hold two UFC belts at the same time
Tom Taylor - January 11, 2017
In November of 2015, Holly Holm shocked the world by shutting off Ronda Rousey with a second round kick to the head. With this defeat of the seemingly unbeatable Rousey, Holm claimed the UFC women’s bantamweight belt, becoming just the second woman in promotional history to wear it. Unfortunately for Holm and her army of fans, she was not able to hang onto the belt for long. In her first defense, which occurred in March of 2016, she surrendered an early lead to be put to sleep by a fifth-round rear-naked choke dealt by the now retired Miesha Tate. Just like that, her reign as UFC women’s bantamweight queen had come to an end.
Holly Holm discusses possible rematch with Ronda Rousey
Tom Taylor - December 20, 2016
In November of last year, Holly Holm shocked the world by ending the seemingly unshakeable reign of long-time women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. She did so with a highlight reel, second-round head-kick knockout. It was far and away the biggest moment of her career. Unfortunately, things have not gone well for Holm since then. In her first defense as champion, she gave up an early lead to surrender to a fifth-round rear-naked choke applied by Miesha Tate. In her next bout thereafter, Holm failed to get back on track, giving up a unanimous decision to Valentina Shevchenko in a fairly forgettable fight. These two losses have deflated most of the mystique she gained by knocking out Rousey.

In November of 2015, Holm picked up the biggest win of her career as she picked up a spectacular KO win over Ronda Rousey in the main event of UFC 193, extending her professional record to 10-0. Unfortunately for Holm, the momentum didn’t continue into this year. In her first title defense, Holm stepped into the Octagon at UFC 196 to fight WMMA pioneer Miesha Tate in the co-main event of the stacked card. While it looked as though Holm was on her way to winning a unanimous decision, Tate managed to pick up a late fifth round submission, choking Holm unconscious to win the women’s bantamweight title.

This time, she was doing so as the champion, and stepping into the cage to fight a very hungry Miesha Tate. While Holm appeared to be en-route to what many believed would be a unanimous decision win, Tate picked up a late 5th round submission win to claim the UFC women’s bantamweight championship.
