UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm is set to defend her belt for the first time this Saturday against top contender Miesha Tate. In preparation for the title fight, Holm has been working with long-time coach Mike Winklejohn of the JacksonWink MMA Academy. Coach Wink was a guest on the MMA Hour this week and spoke about their fight with Tate.

It seems like the championship lifestyle is finally catching up with Holly Holm, at least a little bit. The UFC women’s bantamweight champion was told by the former champion Ronda Rousey that she would be much happier in life if she stayed a contender, as the life of a champion has a taxing schedule aside from just training and fighting. However, Holm did make it known that she did not want to wait for a rematch pending Rousey’s schedule to recover and finish her movie projects. Holm got her wish when the UFC booked a fight for her against Miesha Tate at UFC 196 on March 5.

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm will make her first title defense at this weekend’s UFC 196 event in Las Vegas when she squares off with former Strikeforce title holder Miesha Tate in the evening’s co-main event slot. Many people thought that the ‘Holm vs. Tate’ bout would be promoted to ‘main event’ status after Rafael dos Anjos was forced to pull out of his scheduled title fight with Conor McGregor.

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm has gained an immediate amount of attention following the biggest win of her career at UFC 193 back in November. Holm shocked the world when she knocked out former champion Ronda Rousey out cold in the second round of their fight in front of a UFC record-setting audience. Since then, Holm’s social media channels have ballooned, she has made appearances on some of the biggest media outlets, has met and hung out with celebrities and her fan base has multiplied many times over.

At UFC 193 Holly Holm defeated Ronda Rousey via 2nd round KO to claim the UFC women’s bantamweight championship. While the UFC wanted to book a rematch between the two as soon as possible, preferably at UFC 200 in July, Rousey’s busy Hollywood filming schedule will make it so that she is unable to compete at the event.

Going into UFC 193 Holly Holm had the full support of the boxing community. Holm vs. Rousey was expected to be a classic style vs. style matchup that saw Rousey attempting to take the fight to the ground while Holm attempted to keep it standing. Instead Rousey came out looking to strike with Holm, which surprised many given Holm’s decorated past as a boxer and kickboxer. An early cross left Rousey wobbled and threw her off for the remainder of the fight while Holm put on a striking clinic. In addition, Holm even managed to land a takedown of her own on Rousey.
