Ian McCall loses another opponent, UFC seeking replacement
Since July of 2015, popular UFC flyweight Ian McCall has been scheduled for five fights. Not a single one of them has happened.
First, he was scheduled for an August 2015 bout with Dustin Ortiz, which unfortunately fell through when he sustained an injury in training. Roughly one year later, he was scheduled for a fight with Justin Scoggins, which was cancelled at the last minute when Scoggins announced he wouldn’t be making weight for the fight. Just one month after that, McCall had another bout fall through, when Ray Borg was forced to withdraw from their planned meeting with an illness. Then, in November of 2016, McCall was scheduled for a fight with the retiring Neil Seery. Unfortunately, McCall fell ill in the days leading up to this bout, and was forced to make a withdrawal of his own. This bout was then rescheduled for UFC 208 on February 11, but unfortunately, it has once again been scrapped, as Seery has been forced to withdraw after the tragic passing of his mother in law.
Seery announced his withdrawal from this rescheduled bout with McCall on Facebook.
“I pulled out of my fight in 2 weeks due to losing my mother in law today,” he said. “Sorry to everyone who bought tickets but family comes first.”
Seery’s withdrawal from the UFC 208 bill was subsequently confirmed by MMAJunkie, who spoke with an unnamed UFC official.
Apparently, the UFC is looking for a replacement for McCall, though no replacement has been identified as of yet.
When we last saw Seery in action, he gave up a decision to Japanese contender Kyoji Horiguchi. Prior to that loss, he defeated John Delos Reyes, and lost to Louis Smolka. The Irish veteran is 16-12 overall.
McCall, meanwhile, has not been seen in the Octagon since January of 2015, when he gave up a decision to current bantamweight star John Lineker. Prior to that defeat, the mustachioed flyweight was on a two-fight streak, having bested Brad Pickett and Iliarde Santos. He’s 13-5-1 overall.
