PFL star Kayla Harrison made her Invicta FC debut on Friday night and put on an incredible performance, defeating Courtney King via TKO. Harrison was allowed to go over from PFL to Invicta FC to take a fight while the Professional Fighters League is on hiatus in 2020. In her first fight with Invicta FC, Harrison made her professional women’s featherweight debut against King in what was a huge mismatch. The fight turned into a bloody mess as Harrison dominated King with her incredible grappling skills while bloodying her up on the mat for a second-round TKO.
UFC signs Invicta FC strawweight champion Kanako Murata

The UFC has signed Invicta FC strawweight champion Kanako Murata to a contract to compete for the world’s leading MMA organization. Murata herself confirmed the news on her social media after her former promotion RIZIN FF reported that she had signed a new deal with the UFC. Check out her Twitter below.
Invicta FC to use open scoring after Kansas Athletic Commission enables option for MMA promotions

The Kanas Athletic Commission announced on Monday it will give MMA promotions the option for open scoring, and Invicta FC has taken them up on the offer. In the wake of UFC 247, which featured several controversial judges’ scoring decisions including the heavily-debated main event scorecard between UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and challenger Dominick Reyes, there has been chatter all over MMA circle about the sport adopting open scoring. Instead of the judges’ scorecards being a surprise to everyone at the end of the fight, with open scoring the fighters would see what the scores are in the fight during it. That will soon come to Invicta FC.

Wrong winner announced in Invicta FC fight

There was a huge mess-up by the Kansas Athletic Commission on Friday night at Invicta FC 36. In women’s flyweight action, Stephanie Geltmacher was originally announced as the victor of her fight against Victoria Leonardo via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28). Geltmacher conducted her post-fight interview in the winner’s circle, but then the shenanigans started. The commission informed the fighters and Invicta that they calculated the scorecards incorrectly. Instead of Geltmacher winning by split decision, Leonardo was announced as the winner via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

History was made on Friday night as Invicta FC revived an old school MMA tradition but with a modernized twist. A one-night tournament that saw the winner take home the vacant strawweight title. The ruleset was unique yet simple. The quarter and semifinal rounds were all one five minute round with the finals being three five minute rounds as most – if not all US commissions do not permit fighters to fight for more than 25 minutes in one night.

In addition to that news, longtime top MMA commentator for Bellator and UFC, Jimmy Smith will be on duty for the events alongside Invicta’s usual correspondent and post-fight interviewer, Laura Sanko.
