Ahead of Cris Cyborg’s Invicta FC 15 fight against Daria Ibragimova tonight, there has been much speculation as to whether or not she would still be open to dropping to 135 for a potential superfight with Ronda Rousey. While the hype behind a potential Rousey vs. Cyborg fight has certainly dwindled since Rousey lost to Holly Holm at UFC 193, Holm has since stated that she would be open to fighting Cyborg.

Following Holly Holm’s spectacularly brutal KO win over Ronda Rousey at UFC 193, many fans were quick to turn on Rousey. It was nearly impossible to go on social media without seeing a meme of Rousey posted somewhere. The criticism has been so bad that Rousey’s nemesis Cris Cyborg even feels bad for how the former champ has been treated by the public.

Following Holly Holm’s flawless and dominant win over Ronda Rousey at UFC 193, it was revealed by UFC President Dana White that Rousey would in fact be getting an immediate rematch against Holm when she’s ready. With that being said, Cris Cyborg has booked her next fight at 145 pounds, seemingly abandoning her plan to eventually cut down to 135 pounds for a superfight against Rousey.

UFC commentator Joe Rogan and comedian Tony Hinchcliffe recently found themselves under fire for comments made about Invicta FC champion Cris Cyborg. On a recent podcast Rogan and Hinchcliffe made jokes about Cyborg’s inability to make the bantamweight limit of 135 pounds. Rogan stated that the only way she’d make the weight would be to cut off her penis, an obviously harsh joke.

Cris “Cyborg” (14-1, 1 NC) is getting set to fight at Invicta FC 15 on Jan. 16 in Costa Mesa, California. Her potential opponent, Cindy Dandois (6-2) was announced by Invicta president Shannon Knapp on the Monday’s MMA Hour. Although Cyborg confirmed that there was no official bout agreement on the weight and opponent, it definitely sounds like Knapp is pushing for the bout between Cyborg and Dandois at a 140-pound catchweight, which could lead Cyborg to a fight in the UFC.

While many have their doubts that a fight between UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and Cris Cyborg will ever take place, the odds of a potential fight have increased with Cyborg’s upcoming debut at 140 pounds. That would be the first step towards an eventually attempt to make 135 pounds. Right now that looks like it will be the only way she’ll ever get a shot at UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. The thought is that she will have to fight at least once at bantamweight in Invicta before getting a shot in the UFC’s bantamweight division.
