VIDEO | Jason Knight explains callout of Doo Ho Choi: I’m here to be a crowd-pleaser
On Saturday night, the UFC touched down in picturesque Denver, Colorado with UFC on Fox 23. With finishes in all four main card fights, this event was an absolute thriller.
The first of these exciting main card bouts saw rising featherweight Jason Knight take on 14-fight UFC veteran Alex Caceres in what was arguably the biggest test of his career thus far. Though Knight struggled a bit with Caceres’ unconventional striking technique in the early portions of this fight, he ultimately found his groove, and put his foe away with a rear-naked choke.
In his post-fight interview with Brian Stann, Knight then made a clever callout of fellow prospect and fan favorite featherweight “The Korean Superboy” Doo Ho Choi. Speaking to MMAFighting.com in the wake of his fight, Knight explained his choice to call for a fight with the torpedo-fisted Korean:
“I would love to maybe one day own the belt, but that’s not what I’m here for,” he said. “I’m here to be a crowd pleaser, I’m here to have fun, and do something that I love. I want to make money doing something that I love. Korean Superboy, me and him, we’re going to go out there and put on a fight for the ages, something that nobody is ever going to forget about, and that’s kind of fight I want every time I step in this Octagon. I want a fight that nobody’s going to forget about. I believe that me and The Korean Superboy, we get out there, and we’re going to set off some fireworks and give the fans something to talk about for a long, long time. And maybe one day I’ll sit out on the front porch, telling my grandkids ‘hey, I was one of the greats,’ and whenever they go back and they’re like ‘no papa, you’re crazy,’ I go back and I show them a fight between me and The Korean Superboy, or me and whoever, and they’ll be like ‘damn, you wasn’t lying was you papa.’ That’s the type of stuff that I look forward to.”
