Jim Miller open to fights at 170lbs and 185lbs

Adam Martin - June 22, 2020

Veteran UFC lightweight Jim Miller says he would consider moving up to welterweight and even to middleweight for future fights in the Octagon. The long-time veteran of the sport defeated prospect Roosevelt Roberts via first-round armbar at this past weekend’s UFC on ESPN 11 in what was a 160lbs catchweight fight. Despite being a hefty betting underdog heading into the bout against a larger, younger opponent, Miller pulled off the stunning upset, winning $50,000 extra for “Performance of the Night” in what was his 35th fight in the Octagon, tying Donald Cerrone for the most UFC fights in the process.

Jason Kindschy - June 19, 2020

Mark Hunt returns to the show to give us an update on the status of his competitive career and reaffirm his mission to bring about fair treatment of UFC athletes. “The Super Samoan” has not been in competition since leaving the UFC in 2018, and says that his ongoing legal battle with the company has truly drained his motivation for a sport that he once loved. However, Mark Hunt has plans to return to fighting later this year and end his illustrious career on a high note, while also continuing to fight for a better future for all MMA athletes. Mark gives us his take on the recent dissent among the ranks of the UFC elite regarding fair treatment and better compensation, and Hunt maintains that fighters must join together for the greater good. Mark Hunt also describes what he calls corruption in the Nevada courts regarding his lawsuit against the UFC, and details his hopes to lift the vail of this corruption with an upcoming appeal in October. Jim Miller joins us to preview his catchweight showdown against Roosevelt Roberts tomorrow at the UFC APEX and discuss his plans for the remainder of 2020. Having purchased a new home for his growing family, Jim plans to put on a show and snag another bonus to put towards the remaining renovations. Miller has long been thought of as a gatekeeper in the UFC’s lightweight division, but Jim believes he is better than ever and could very well make a run at the title. That all starts with getting back in the win column on Saturday. Also, you may be surprised to hear that Jim Miller is teasing the idea of moving up in weight! We’ll be discussing all that and more.

Dan Hooker Excited to Fight True Veteran and 'Walking Head' Jim Miller at UFC Atlantic City

Justin Golightly - March 16, 2018

As far as quality of competition goes, Dan Hooker is on the best streak of his career. Two finishes back-to-back over Ross Pearson and Marc Diakiese has led him to his biggest challenge yet. Jim Miller is not only Hooker’s next opponent, but a fighter that he respects. That doesn’t mean he’s not going to try to knock him out with a liver shot at UFC Atlantic City. “Jim Miller’s been a big name since I first started watching UFC. I think this fight will tie him with Michael Bisping for the most UFC fights of all time. I think he’s on 28, and then our fight will make him 29, so that will tie him for the most UFC fights ever. So there’s a lot of guys going around calling themselves ‘UFC veterans’ after a couple of fights, but Jim Miller is about as veteran as you come. So this is a fight, you know, I relish a name like that. I love it when you get that name and it’s someone you look up to, it’s someone you recognise their name and you think back to all the fights you’ve seen them have, all the wars. So yeah, I like seeing the posters up there with our names squared off against each other.”

My holiday album dropped today. The conservative estimate is that it goes platinum by the end of the weekend. @ufc pic.twitter.com/TOfKMaQjly
