Jimmy Crute provides update on injured leg in Anthony Smith fight at UFC 261

UFC light heavyweight contender Jimmy Crute provided an update on his injured leg from the Anthony Smith fight at UFC 261. Crute appeared to be in serious pain due to a leg injury and unable to walk properly at the end of the first round with Smith. After attempting to put pressure on the leg, his knee buckled and the cage-side doctor called a stop to the fight as Crute lost via injury TKO. A few days after the fight and Crute has now provided an update on the injury he suffered. According to the Aussie, there is the belief he suffered a knee injury in the fight.

UFC light heavyweight prospect Jimmy Crute issued a statement following his first-round TKO loss to Anthony Smith at UFC 261. Crute was the betting favorite heading into the bout with Smith and he was doing well early on in the fight with his takedowns, but a leg injury caused the doctor to stop the fight at the end of the first round. Smith (35-16 MMA) will enter tonight’s event looking to build off his impressive first round submission victory over Devin Clarke this past November. ‘Lionheart’ has gone 2-2 since suffering a unanimous decision loss to Jon Jones in his bid for the promotions light heavyweight title at UFC 235.

A pair of light heavyweight contenders will meet at UFC 261 as Anthony Smith is set to take on Jimmy Crute, who recently lost his opponent. Crute was originally set to take on Johnny Walker at UFC 260, but Walker was forced to withdraw from that fight due to a torn pectoral muscle. Instead, Crute is now shifted back a month but he gets to take on a higher-ranked fighter instead when he meets Smith at UFC 261, which takes place on April 24. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was the first to break the news that Smith would be fighting Crute.

The 24-year-old Aussie is one of the best up-and-coming light heavyweights in the sport. After making his MMA debut in 2016, Crute won the first seven fights of his career in Australia before getting a chance to fight on Dana White’s Contender Series. He scored a knockout on the show to earn a UFC deal. Crute then scored back-to-back stoppage wins over Paul Craig and Sam Alvey before losing for the first time against Misha Cirkunov.
