Joanna Jedrzejczyk eyeing second UFC belt in 2017

While UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk is undoubtably one of the most dominant champions currently in the UFC, the Polish superstar isn’t content with just dominating the women’s strawweight division.

On the heels of her impressive UFC 205 unanimous decision win over Karolina Kowalkiewicz earlier this month, Jedrzejczyk joined The MMA Hour to discuss her plans for 2017. Jedrzejczyk stated once again that she plans to go for UFC gold in yet another weight class, something she has mentioned before.

“Sure, I think that can happen in 2017. I think that I earned that, I deserved that, and I feel like I’ve gotten so much attention from the media, the international media, and from Dana [White]. I’ve put on great work again, a great fight, and I think this might happen. I’m very calm, enjoying my victory. I have some stuff to do, I’m going to enjoy my time with my family, and then, I’m going to talk to the UFC, talk to Dana, and we’ll figure out what to do.”

While Jedrzejczyk may be too small to compete in the UFC’s bantamweight division, the UFC has experimented with the possibility of a women’s flyweight division at 125, where Jedrzejczyk has previously stated that she could envision herself fighting.

With an unblemished record that has seen Jedrzejczyk go 13-0, win the UFC women’s strawweight championship, and then defend the belt four times, Jedrzejczyk believes she has enough star power to bring the Octagon to Poland for a show in her native country.

“Of course,” Jedrzejczyk said. “I want this show in Poland, and I think that I will fight in the second part of 2017, why not?”

Given that Karolina Kowalkiewicz is also Polish, the pair have both expressed their desire to fight in Poland. Although Jedrzejczyk may have won their fight at UFC 205, Kowalkiewicz has been open about the fact that she believes she deserves a rematch given that she performed extremely well in their fight.
