Joanna Jedrzejczyk expects title shot with win over Tecia Torres
Former UFC strawweight champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk, who is now 0-2 against reigning champ Rose Namajunas, will look to get back on track when she battles Tecia Torres at UFC on Fox 30 this July 28. If she wins this fight, she expects to be rewarded with another crack at the title.
“I am very happy to fight Tecia,” Jedrzejczyk said of the matchup with Torres on The MMA Hour this week (transcribed by Adam Guillen Jr. for MMAMania). “The good thing is she fought Jessica Andrade in her last fight, she lost that fight. But Jessica Andrade is going to be the challenger for Rose Namajunas. So I am very happy to face Tecia Torres and get the title shot after this fight.”
“That’s the plan,” Jedrzejczyk continued. “I know more than you guys and I am very happy to have this fight. Tecia Torres is a real warrior so I am very happy to face her. She was training at American Top Team for a long time, she left a year ago. I think it’s good and it will be a very interesting fight.”
“I believe I am going to get title shot after this fight,” the former champ concluded. “But I said I could have a lot of fights before I get title shot, I went through this in 2014 and 2015. I want this belt and I will get it back, mark my words.”
Prior to her losses to Rose Namajunas, Jedrzejczyk defended the UFC strawweight title five times, thwarting Jessica Penne, Valerie Letourneau, Claudia Gadelha, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, and Jessica Andrade. She won the title with a second-round mauling of inaugural champion Carla Esparza.
Do you think the former champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk deserves another crack at the strawweight belt with a win over Tecia Torres this July 28?
