Carla Esparza says Joanna Jedrzejczyk rematch "would be a much different fight"

Adam D Martin - November 29, 2021

Former UFC women’s strawweight champion Carla Esparza says that a Joanna Jedrzejczyk rematch “would be a much different fight.” Esparza defeated Yan Xiaonan earlier this year by TKO in one of the best performances of her UFC career to date. The former champ is now hoping the UFC gives her a title shot against UFC women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas — who Esparza previously defeated to become the UFC’s first-ever 115lbs women’s champ — but that is no sure thing. UFC president Dana White has hinted that the promotion is instead looking at a potential matchup for the title between Namajunas and Marina Rodriguez instead, which would leave Esparza on the sidelines without a fight. However, she says she would fight Jedrzejczyk.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk believes Weili Zhang rematch could be her comeback fight

Adam D Martin - November 18, 2021

Former UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk believes that the Weili Zhang rematch could be her comeback fight. Joanna Jedrzejczyk has not fought since March 2020 when she fought 25 minutes to a narrow split decision defeat against Zhang at UFC 248. It was one of the best fights of last year, and many fans and observers believe it was the single greatest women’s MMA fight of all time. Ever since that fight, there have been calls for a potential rematch between the two. However, Jedrzejczyk has taken the past 18+ months off for a number of reasons. Zhang, meanwhile, has continued to stay active, losing twice to rival Rose Namajunas.

Dana White responds after Joanna Jedrzejczyk asks for a bigger piece of cake: "Joanna ate a lot of cake when she was champion"

Adam Martin - October 29, 2021

Dana White responded after Joanna Jedrzejczyk asked for a bigger piece of cake, saying that “Joanna ate a lot of cake when she was champion.” Despite having not fought since March 2020, Jedrzejczyk has been in the news as of late for several reasons. First, divisional rival Marina Rodriguez said that she wanted to see her removed from the rankings following her win over Mackenzie Dern earlier this month. After that, the UFC rankings did in fact remove Jedrzejczyk from the rankings pool. Since then, she has come out and said that she would like to return to the UFC and plans to in 2022, but she is hoping to get a new contract, or as she says, “a bigger piece of the cake.”

UFC Vegas 39 rankings update: Joanna Jedrzejczyk moves up women's P4P rankings

Adam D Martin - October 12, 2021

The UFC rankings have been updated following UFC Vegas 39, and notably, Joanna Jedrzejczyk moved up women’s P4P rankings. Notably, Jedrzejczyk didn’t even compete at UFC Vegas 39. In fact, the main event saw fellow strawweight contender Marina Rodriguez fight against Mackenzie Dern in the main event and defeat her via unanimous decision in a breakthrough performance. As expected, Rodriguez moved up in the 115lbs rankings. She moved from No. 6 to No. 4, with Dern dropping down to No. 6 and with Yan Xiaonan at No. 5. As well, Rodriguez debuted at No. 10 overall in the women’s P4P rankings. It is a well-deserved ranking given how good she has looked in her last three fights, wins over Dern, Michelle Waterson, and Amanda Ribas.

Marina Rodriguez says Joanna Jedrzejczyk should be removed from the UFC rankings

Adam D Martin - October 10, 2021

UFC women’s strawweight contender Marina Rodriguez says that former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk should be removed from the UFC rankings. Rodriguez defeated Mackenzie Dern via unanimous decision in the main event of Saturday’s UFC Vegas 39 event. It was a tremendous performance by Rodriguez, who outstruck Dern for the majority of the rounds and who defended Dern’s submission attempts when the fight hit the ground. The victory will elevate Rodriguez into the top five of the women’s strawweight division, and at this point, she is probably one win away from a title shot.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk recalls almost quitting MMA, 'There was no money'

Drake Riggs - May 14, 2021

In some parallel universe, Joanna Jedrzejczyk never goes on the historic run that she did as UFC strawweight champion from 2015 to 2017. But it very well could have been this universe. Every UFC fighter’s last fight before joining the biggest stage in the sport holds significance in their career. For Jedrzejczyk, if she never got her opportunity to shine against Rosi Sexton in London, that could have been it for her time as a competitor.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk wants title shot against Weili Zhang vs. Rose Namajunas winner at UFC 261

Adam D Martin - April 20, 2021

Former UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk believes she should be next to fight the winner of Weili Zhang vs. Rose Namajunas. Jedrzejczyk hasn’t fought since last March when she dropped a split decision to Zhang in a “Fight of the Year” candidate at UFC 248. Since then, Jedrzejczyk has been staying busy outside the Octagon with other ventures and she has enjoyed taking some time off to rest and relax, especially during COVID-19 times. However, she still plans on fighting again, and her hope is that she can step back into the Octagon and get a title fight shortly.
