Brandon Moreno was involved in one of the best fights of 2020, but he doesn’t believe he’s the most deserving candidate of Fight of the Year honors. Moreno dropped jaws earlier this month, when he battled UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo to a thrilling draw in the main event of UFC 256. While the two flyweight stars deserve plenty of credit for that incredible contest, Moreno himself feels Fight of the Year honors should go to another UFC championship war: Zhang Weili’s March defeat of Joanna Jedrzejczyk.

The Poland native last fought at UFC 248 in March where she lost a razor-thin split decision to champion Weili Zhang in one of the best MMA fights of all time. Both women took a lot of damage in the fight and unfortunately neither of them has been able to get back into the Octagon since their war. With the fight now six months in the rearview mirror, the UFC hopes to get both fighters back in the Octagon shortly.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk believes Jan Blachowicz will defeat Dominick Reyes at UFC 253 to become the new UFC light heavyweight champion. Jedrzejczyk knows what it takes to become a champion, having reigned the UFC women’s strawweight division from 2015 to 2017. When Blachowicz fights Reyes in September for the belt that Jon Jones recently vacated, he will be more than ready to win the fight. That’s according to his long-time friend and fellow Pole Jedrzejczyk.

Former UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk shot down retirement rumors, saying that her goal is to be the champion again. Jedrzejczyk last competed in March at UFC 248 against Weili Zhang. In one of the greatest MMA fights of all time, the two warriors went the full 25 minutes with Zhang winning a split decision. They later shared a moment in the hospital. It was an incredible fight, one of the best ever, and despite losing on paper, Jedrzejczyk’s stock arguably rose despite the loss.

Zhang (21-1 MMA) put her title on the line against former division queen Jedrzejczyk (16-4 MMA) in the co-headliner of March’s UFC 248 pay-per-view event. The result was one of the greatest fights in the history of not only women’s MMA, but mixed martial arts in general.

Her opponent Zhang recently shared a story of how she met Jedrzekczyk in the hospital following their classic at UFC 248. The champ said that Jedrzejczyk was “crying for hours” as the two shared a special emotional moment with each other after slugging it out for 25 minutes in the center of the Octagon. The bout won “Fight of the Night” and is already regarded by fans and media as one of the greatest MMA fights of all time.

Jedrzejczyk suffered a nasty hematoma and other damage to her face during the fight with Zhang at UFC 248, which she ended up losing via split decision. Despite losing the decision, Jedrzejczyk regained the respect of fans and fighters after a tough stretch in the last few years. She may have lost the decision, but her stock went way up.

In the co-main event, Jedrzejczyk was fighting Weili Zhang for the strawweight belt. She was looking to reclaim the title after losing it to Rose Namajunas back in 2017. Yet, after a hard-fought five rounds, where many consider it to be one of the best fights of all-time it was Zhang who won a split-decision.
