VIDEO | Joanna Jedrzejczyk Joins Robin Black to Analyze Her Unique Skill Set
UFC strawweight Joanna Jedrzejczyk is now just days away from her fourth title defense. This defense will see her take on fellow undefeated Polish star Karolina Kowalkiewicz on the main card of UFC 205. The card will go down this Saturday night inside New York City’s hallowed Madison Square Garden.
In advance of this massive showdown, Jedrzejczyk has been partaking in a modest media tour. This tour took her up to Canada, where she met with renowned MMA analyst Robin Black.
Jedrzejczyk joined Black on the Fight Network to dissect some of the techniques that have turned her into one of the UFC’s more dominant champions – particularly her takedown defense and striking.
To shine a light on her incredible takedown defense, Jedrzejczyk and Black took a look at the fight that made a UFC champion: a March 2015 defeat of inaugural strawweight queen Carla Esparza.
In this fight, Esparza sought to nullify the weapons Jedrzejczyk honed over a decade-long career as a Muay Thai fighter. She attempted to do so by taking the fight to the ground. Unfortunately for Esparza, taking Jedrzejczyk down proved about as easy as taking down a brick wall, and so she was forced into a prolonged standup fight with the Polish striker. This, of course, would prove to be her downfall, as she wilted under a meteor shower of strikes in the bout’s second round, surrendering the title to Jedrzejczyk in the process.
In an effort to examine Jedrzejczyk’s incredible striking skill, Black queued up footage of her most recent title defense, which saw her weather and early storm to decision long-time rival Claudia Gadelha. In this fight, Jedrzejczyk’s takedown defense once again held up quite well, which allowed her to get to work with her versatile striking arsenal.
Do you think Jedrzejczyk’s incredible skills will carry her to victory at UFC 205 this Saturday? Or is the champ in for a rude awakening courtesy of her unheralded challenger? Sound off, PENN Nation!
