Joe Lauzon will “harass” Sean Shelby not to cut Marcin Held

Joe Lauzon has been on the wrong end of some questionable decisions in his day – including his recent decision loss to Jim Miller. During the main card of the UFC’s latest trip to Phoenix, however, the fan favorite lightweight found himself on the right end up a bad decision.

Lauzon’s questionable decision win came against former Bellator lightweight title challenger Marcin Held who, after succeeding on five of five takedown attempts and and amassing 8:30 of control time, seemed to have done more than enough to capture the win. Despite the Polish fighters efforts, however, Lauzon was awarded a split decision victory.

While some fighters would celebrate this surprising twist, a classy Lauzon said right away in his post fight interview that he believed the judges got the decision wrong.

“I disagree 100%,” he told Octagon commentator Jon Anik. 

Lauzon then continued this trend backstage, explaining to the media that winning a bad decision feels worse than losing one.

“I thought it sucked before when I thought I won a fight and I lost,” Lauzon said backstage after his fight. “This is worse. This sucks.”

“It’s great that I got the win money,” he continued. “But I 100% thought he won the fight. Honestly, I feel guilty.”

Lauzon went to explain that, because Held lost his UFC debut against Diego Sanchez, and fell to 0-2 with this loss, he’s worried the UFC might be tempted to release him. Apparently, Lauzon will speak to UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby personally in an attempt to deter him from doing so.

“I was in his shoes last time, and he’s coming over from Bellator, and they match him up with Diego, he has a tough outing at altitude, and then I think he gets screwed on a decision [against me].

“That’s supper crappy,” he continued. “That’s a really bad start, 0-2, and he’s really good. I’ll be harassing Sean Shelby, [saying], ‘You’ve got to keep that guy around. He’s really, really good.’”
