Joe Lauzon returns at UFC Fight Night 120 in Norfolk
According to a release from the UFC, all-action lightweight veteran Joe Lauzon will return to the Octagon when the UFC touches down in Norfolk, VA on November 11. His opponent will be a grizzled veteran of a similar vintage – and with a similar propensity for wild fights – Clay “The Carpenter” Guida. Given that Lauzon and Guida own a combined 13 Fight of the Night awards, there seems to be a high chance this one leaves fans thrilled.
When we last saw Lauzon in action, he lost a close decision to rising Scottish talent Stevie Ray. This loss, meanwhile, was preceded by an unfortunately blatant judging blunder opposite Marcin Held – a decision win even Lauzon admitted he shouldn’t have received. This loss, finally, was preceded by a split loss to Jim Miller, and a TKO defeat of Diego Sanchez. He’s 27-13 in sum.
Guida, on the other hand, was last seen in action in June, when he defeated Erik Koch by unanimous decision. This win was preceded by back-to-back stoppage losses to Brian Ortega and Thiago Tavares. Guida is 33-17 overall.
The UFC’s return to Norfolk, titled UFC Fight Night 120, will be headlined by a lightweight bout between former champ Anthony Pettis and dangerous contender Dustin Poirier. At present, the card includes another all-violence scrap between welterweight brawlers Diego Sanchez and Matt Brown, a middleweight bout between Nate Marquardt and Cezar Ferreira, a strawweight bout between Angela Hill and Nina Ansaroff, and a heavyweight showdown between Andrei Arlovski and Junior Albini.
