Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor’s two UFC fights against each other hold two of the top three pay-per-view buys in the UFC’s history.
No belt was on the line in their intense matches, but it is obvious that the people were all more than willing to buy the fight on pay-per-view.
UFC color commentator Joe Rogan and UFC ranked lightweight and welterweight Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone were talking about the subject of big fights that people want to see versus championship fights that are more determined by rankings.
“I think this whole obsession with championship belts and all that stuff is all great and everything but, here’s a perfect example, Conor and Nate Diaz,” Rogan said (at 0:25 of the video). “Biggest f—ing fight in the history of the sport. No belt on the line. Nobody gave a f–k. Nobody said, ‘Where’s the gold? Where’s the strap? Where’s the leather?’ ”
Cerrone asked Rogan, “Do you think the UFC is going more towards big fights than championship fights?”
“I hope that’s what they do,” Rogan claimed.
“I hope so too,” Cerrone told Rogan.
Check out the awesome video of the Joe Rogan and “Cowboy” Cerrone as they touch upon what may be in store for Cerrone’s next fight. It sounds like since the bout isn’t yet official, “Cowboy” was not able to leak who the potential opponent is.
One thing to note is that Cerrone, who is always a very active and game fighter threw his name in the hat for a bout against former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler.
Who do you think Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone will be fighting next, perhaps at UFC 205 in New York? Share with us who you think “Cowboy” will be squaring off with in the comment section!
