Anthony Johnson: “Do I get excited watching Jon Jones fight? I can’t say I do.”

While Artem Lobov and Paulie Malignaggi tussled at the Bare Knuckle FC media day in New York on Tuesday, a familiar face was seen trying to break up the fray: former UFC title challenger Anthony “Rumble” Johnson.

Serving as a promotional ambassador, Johnson held back Lobov with one hand, while effortlessly filming the the banter with the other.

Speaking to the media, Johnson touched on a number of subjects including the opponent perennially discussed by fans and media: Jon Jones.

While he hasn’t competed in mixed martial arts since April of 2017, Johnson has been keeping close tabs on the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.

“I’ve always been a fan of combat sports, no matter what,” Johnson told MMAJunkie. “Watching Jon fight, it’s always amazing because he’s such a dominant force. Do I get excited watching Jon fight? I can’t say I do. But I like watching him fight. The guy’s done so many amazing things in the octagon.”

If Johnson and Jones do meet (for the record “Rumble” would not commit that they will), it would have to be at heavyweight.

“I know where you’re going with this whole thing, and if it happens, it happens. But of course, I want it to happen at heavyweight, that way we can both be fat and happy and not have to worry about losing weight, and just go out there and fight.”
