Dana White: Jon Jones will not headline any more UFC events

This week, former UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones was handed a 1-year suspension for his random out-of-competition drug testing failure back in June.

The failed drug test unfortunately forced Jones out of his UFC 200 headlining scrap with Daniel Cormier just 48 hours before fight night. While things didn’t initially look good for Jones, the pound for pound kingpin maintained his innocence throughout the appeal process. Ultimately, a major breakthrough for Jones and his team came when UFC President Dana White revealed that it didn’t look like Jones took the substances everyone thought he did. White’s announcement was then followed up several weeks later by a report which revealed that Jones failed the drug test due to a tainted supplement. This week, it was revealed that Jones had been suspended for one year retroactive to July.

Now, despite the fact that Jones failed the drug test due to a tainted supplement, UFC President Dana White has revealed that he no longer has faith in Jones to headline a card, and as a result, ‘Bones’ will no longer be allowed to headline cards until he has proved to White that he can make it to fight night.

White spoke to Sirius XM:

“I don’t (trust him), no. I don’t,” White said. “In my opinion, I would never take the risk of headlining a show with Jon Jones again. I’d put him on the card, but I wouldn’t headline with him until he consistently gets back on track. Millions of dollars are spent on this. For a card to fall apart, and how many cards have fallen apart because Jon Jones gets in trouble for something? So no, I’m not at that place with him.”

Johnson Cormier

While Jones is only suspended for another eight months, the UFC decided to strip him of the interim light heavyweight championship despite the fact that there were briefly talks of having Jones defend the interim belt against Anthony Johnson, to determine who will fight Daniel Cormier for the light heavyweight championship. With that being said, the UFC then signed both Cormier & Johnson to a light heavyweight title fight for UFC 206.
