Daniel Cormier demands Jon Jones accepts July rematch

UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is looking to secure himself a fight with former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones when ‘Bones’ becomes eligible to fight again in July following his year-long USADA suspension stemming from his random out-of-competition failed drug test prior to UFC 200, where he was supposed to fight Cormier for the undisputed light heavyweight title.

Following Cormier’s recent UFC 210 win over Anthony Johnson, which saw him defend the light heavyweight title for the second time, the light heavyweight champ used his post-fight Octagon interview to send a message to Jon Jones.

He once again called for a rematch with Jones in an interview on ‘UFC Tonight’:

“Take the fight with me, Jon Jones,” Cormier said. “There are no tune-up fights in the UFC. Try to get your title back. Come meet your boy ‘DC,’ come get this money. Let’s get money together and give the people in Anaheim a show. No tune-up for Jon Jones, he gets to come and get beat by me this time. We’re fighting right now or he doesn’t get to fight me. It’s my rules, I’m the champ now.”

“The person that we saw against Ovince Saint Preux is the new, USADA-regulated Jon Jones,” Cormier said. “He’s always going to look like that. So, yes, I will beat him up on July 29th.”

Jones and Cormier have been scheduled to fight on several occasions, however between injuries, and Jones’ troubles outside of the Octagon, the par have fought just once, where Jones took a unanimous decision win at UFC 182. After over a year away from the Octagon, Jones returned to claim the interim belt by defeating OSP at UFC 197, before then being stripped of the belt several months later after his failed drug test.

Expect a response from Jones sooner rather than later.
