Yesterday afternoon, former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones met with the CSAC, where he was handed his punishment for his latest failed drug test. The commission pulled no punches, revoking his license, and fining him 40% of his UFC 214 fight purse.
Because Jones is still awaiting a suspension from the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), one can be quite confident that it’ll be a long time before we see him back in the cage. Given his status as one of MMA’s true greats, this is undeniably unfortunate.
In the wake of yesterday’s hearing, UFC color commentator Joe Rogan posted to Instagram to give his take on the unfortunate shadow now cast over Jones’s career.
“I’ve seen a lot of really talented fighters in my years of calling fights, and Jon stands out as something special even in a group of the greats. As @davidgoggins so perfectly put it, he is ‘uncommon amongst uncommon people.’ I really hope he gets through this latest setback and returns with a vengeance.”
What do you think of Joe Rogan’s comments on the Jon Jones situation?
