Jon Jones discusses potential rematch with Daniel Cormier
Former UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones has proved time and time again that he truly is the most dominant light heavyweight in the world today. Racking up a nearly undefeated record, with his only loss coming as the result of a disqualification early in his career, which saw him crowned the youngest champion in UFC history.
When Jon Jones was preparing for his UFC 182 showdown with Daniel Cormier however, many thought the former Olympian would prove to be the toughest test of Jones’ career. With that being said, when the pair stepped into the Octagon, Jones handed Cormier what remains to this day, the first loss of his professional career.
While Jones is currently suspended until July, the former champion will be in attendance Saturday night at UFC 210, where Cormier fights Anthony Johnson for the light heavyweight title in hopes of defending his belt for the second time. Ahead of that fight, UFC President Dana White has stated that Jones will likely fight the winner of the highly anticipated showdown. With that in mind, Jones spoke to fans and media members in New York to discuss his thoughts on a potential rematch with Cormier, as well as a showdown with Anthony Johnson:
“I really don’t feel like I have unfinished business with Cormier,” Jones said. “I think I have unfinished business with Anthony Johnson. We’ve had quite a few fights that fell through. But Daniel Cormier? I beat him fair and square. I’m the only guy to beat him. If anyone has unfinished business I think he has unfinished business with me. Daniel is no greater than any other person I’ve defeated.”
Jones of course was scheduled to fight Johnson once before, but unfortunately was pulled from the card after his infamous hit and run incident.
